Yossi Leshem lectures in the Department of Zoology of Tel Aviv University. He has been involved in the study of bird habits in relation to aircraft safety for several years and has received The Yitzhak Sade Prize for Military Literature, for his book “Flying with the Birds” and the prestigious Mike Kuhring Prize in 2005 for his achievements in improving flight safety. His pioneering work tracking birds has saved the lives of airline pilots and millions of dollars by sharply reducing air collisions.
Dr Leshem is also involved in joint conservation projects with Jordan and the
Palestinian Authority in which birds of prey, such as hawks and owls, are encouraged to live on farms to protect crops from rodent infestation.
