BOOK LAUNCH: "Anzacs & Israel"
- 3PM (before the 4 PM start of the launch of FOIWA)
- Sunday 8 August 2010
- Victory Life Centre
- 1 Neil Street, Osborne Park
This abridged version of Anzacs, Empires and Israel’s Restoration, by Kelvin Crombie, relates to the special role between the Anzac soldiers and the people of Israel during both World Wars.
It reveals the strategic role that the Anzac soldiers played, as part of the British Army, in helping to defeat the Turkish Empire in the First World War. This victory in war helped to facilitate the implementation of the Balfour Declaration and its promise of a National Home for the Jewish people in the land of Israel, then known as Palestine.
In addition this book also details the strategic role of the Anzac troops during World War Two when they fought in the region to stop the combined German-Italian force from capturing the Suez Canal.
In so doing these troops alongside their Commonwealth brothers also helped prevent the SS from implementing their policy of genocide against the 500,000 Jewish people then living in Palestine.
Although not professing to provide all relevant background material to what is a very complicated region, nevertheless considerable information is provided which allows the reader to grasp some of the broader issues associated with the modern restoration of Israel.
There can be little doubt that despite several negative aspects, there is indeed a significant connection between Australia and New Zealand with restored Israel in the past.
The book concludes with a challenge as to how contemporary Australia and New Zealand are to relate to contemporary Israel.
This event will mark the national launch of ‘Anzacs & Israel.’
$5 from each copy sold at this launch will be donated to assist with the launch of ‘Friends of Israel’ Association.
